Children’s Book Week is an annual celebration of children’s books and reading, organised by children’s reading charity BookTrust and supported by bookshops, authors, libraries and publishers around the UK. This year it is part of BookTrust’s flagship Time to Read Campaign, launched in September, which urges parents to read with their children, long after they have learned to read themselves.
From 31 October – 6 November 2016, there will be free events around the country for children and their families, at libraries, children centres, schools, nurseries or bookshops to celebrate the wonder of children’s books. Authors and illustrators involved this year include Cressida Cowell and Nick Butterworth. For more information, visit the Booktrust website
To mark Children’s Book Week, BookTrust is also publishing its Great Books Guide, to help teachers and parents identify fantastic modern titles for children aged 4 -12+ years. With 60 carefully selected books, the Guide avoids the regular children’s classics, and brings a wider selection, including a book about Minecraft! You can download it here
