National Poetry Day 2017

« Back

This year National Poetry Day is taking place on 28 September. National Poetry Day is an annual celebration of poetry and it’s about everybody sharing poetry, reading poetry, writing poetry, enjoying poetry! For schools this can be a chance to make more of something already enjoyed throughout the school or it can be a launchpad for new experiences and enjoyment.

If you’re looking for ways to celebrate with poetry in school there are all sorts of free resources and materials on the National Poetry Day website. You’ll find a selection of poems on the National Poetry Day 2017 theme of FREEDOM to get your class inspired; a bank of online resources to get your class started on their poetry day and a toolkit which is full of ideas and inspiration.

There are also wonderful posters by Sophie Herxheimer, the National Poetry Day artist/poet. Use Sophie’s posters to brighten up your walls and as the centrepieces of poetry displays. Sign up to receive free display packs, or download them now.

Don’t forget to enter our competition to win a bundle of fantastic children’s poetry books. Good luck!
