World Book Day
Welcome to the official World Book Day website for the UK and Ireland.
Books for Hospitals 2008
Throughout May a number of bookshops around the UK and Ireland are participating in World Book Day’s Books for Hospitals initiative.
Participating bookshops are collecting books of all kinds and for all ages to give to a nominated hospital or other worthwhile setting; for every ten books donated the shop will add another.
Supported by Attend, the hospital volunteers’ organisation, and by the National Year of Reading, Books for Hospitals will provide books for those in the local community who are unable to visit a bookshop for the period of time they are in hospital or in care.
To find out if there’s a participating bookshop in your area, please download the list here.
If you have any specific queries about Books for Hospitals, please contact the WBD co-ordinator.
The results of the World Book Day vote ended with Boy A by Jonathan Trigell being voted The Book to Talk About. To read more and to find out where on the list the other titles made it please head to www.worldbookday.com/spreadtheword or by clicking the Spread the Word box to the right.
World Book Day grows every year, as more and more partners come on board to join us in our activity. Our core activity will continue - covering schools and pre-schools, and their attending children with Schools Packs, display material and World Book Day £1 or €1.50 Book Tokens.
Pre-schools and secondary schools need to register to participate, as in previous years. Please note that primary schools and all schools in Ireland will continue to receive material automatically.

The World Book Day team is working with the National Year of Reading to make the most of both 2008 and 2009 activity.
