World Book Day supports you to encourage reading for pleasure with
evidence-based resources, tips and ideas that can also be used all year round.
Our resources suggest impactful ways to promote a reading for pleasure culture in your setting with fun, inclusive activities that everyone can enjoy, regardless of household income.
Our Activity Bank is also now open. Explore ideas from partners and practitioners which support our 6 elements of Reading for Pleasure and share your own.
Reading for Pleasure, as reported by NLT, declined still further in 2023. World Book Day have also been carrying out work on identifying the specific barriers for children in seeing themselves as readers and choosing to do it in their free time. Most recently we have carried out research with Beano Brain
World Book Day and the Reading for Pleasure team at The Open University have worked with practitioners to develop a series of reflective conversations with practitioners exploring how we might address the barriers in the classroom.
