In order to encourage reluctant readers, cut out cartoons/comic strips from a comic or newspaper. Remove the final picture. Back these on cardboard and distribute them to the children in the class. Ask them to make up an ending which would be unusual and entertaining. Share their ideas with the class and ask others what their ending would be. This makes reading fun for even the most reluctant pupils!
