I asked for volunteers, who had been read too in a different language when very small, to bring a favourite book or rhyme that they would feel comfortable to read in the original language. Four boys came forward from years 8 to 10 to read in Gujarati, Russian, Arabic and Japanese. These were are their second languages. There was a powerpoint with translation for the screen behind and then we had a class discussion about each reading afterwards. It was a great exercise to teach other children in the class about reading across the world and make them interested in learning about different languages and cultures.
