YA BOOK CLUB: OCTOBER PICK

THE ABSOLUTELY TRUE DIARY OF A PART-TIME INDIAN
SHERMAN ALEXIE
Published by: Penguin Random House

SUSIN NIELSEN, author of Word Nerd and Optimists Die First has made this month’s selection. Her new novel No Fixed Address is out now.

About No Fixed Address:
Felix Knutsson is nearly thirteen, lives with his mother and pet gerbil Horatio, and is brilliant at memorising facts and trivia. So far, pretty normal. But Felix and his mom Astrid have a secret: they are living in a van.

Susin Nielsen deftly combines humour, heartbreak, and hope in this moving story about people who slip through the cracks in society, and about the power of friendship and community to make all the difference.

Susin’s selection:
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie is a fantastic novel, both funny and heartbreaking. It opened my eyes to a life experience unlike my own and gave me a new level of understanding and compassion, all while being a rip-roaring good read, a real page-turner. Alexie’s voice is powerful and unique.
