Home > Resources > Jigsaw PSHE 11-16: Reading Celebration Template

Reading celebration template for students aged 11–16. This single-page reflection sheet lets students review any book, article, poem, or text they have enjoyed. Students rate their reading, write a short review, and connect their response to one of the five wellbeing themes. Ideal for displays, book swaps, or building a peer recommendation library, this template gives young people a structured way to share their reading experiences.

Why it works

Teenagers often value peer recommendations but may be reluctant to share reading preferences in school. This template removes pressure by focusing on personal response rather than literary analysis. The star rating and keyword prompt give students quick entry points, while the open review section lets more confident readers elaborate. Linking to wellbeing rather than curriculum goals positions reading as something students do for themselves, not just for teachers.

Who is it for

  • Secondary students reviewing their reading
  • English teachers promoting reading for pleasure
  • Form tutors facilitating book discussions
  • Librarians collecting recommendations
  • Students creating displays or book clubs

How to use it

Students complete templates individually or in small groups, discussing choices with peers before writing. Use them during form time, library periods, or as English extension activities. Create a classroom or corridor display to showcase reviews, or compile digital versions on your school website or learning platform. The templates work well as conversation starters for reading groups or book clubs.

Get started

Print enough copies or provide digital versions for students to complete electronically. Model completing a template with a book, article, or poem you have recently enjoyed, highlighting the wellbeing connection. Emphasise that any reading counts, including audiobooks, graphic novels, poetry, manga, or online articles. Allow students to work at their own pace and share only if comfortable.
