This Family handout comes from Jigsaw PSHE and World Book Day. It links reading for fun with the NHS 5 Ways to Wellbeing. Families get simple ideas that support calm reading at home and help children enjoy books in many formats.
Why it works
Families play a key role in reading for fun. This resource explains your school approach in clear language and offers quick activities that use books families already have. It reminds families that all reading counts and helps them make reading a relaxed daily habit.
Who is it for
- Families and carers
- Parents supporting reading at home
- Guardians of children aged 3 to 11
- Extended family members
- Anyone who reads with children
How to use it
Send the flyer home before World Book Day to help families prepare. You can also send it afterwards to keep interest strong. Teachers can share parts of the flyer during parents’ evenings or link to it in school newsletters.
Get started
Print enough copies for each family or send it home digitally. Add a short note about your school plans for World Book Day and how families can join in. You can place the flyer in book bags or send it with a child’s Book collector card. For best results, share it at least one week before World Book Day.
