Help children explore their reading habits creatively with My reading doodles activity sheet. Use this activity in class or at home to spark conversation about what makes reading enjoyable and personal.

How it works

Pupils draw what makes reading fun for them: the book they are reading, how they are reading it, and where they love to read.

Why it works

This activity helps pupils connect reading with creativity and self-expression. It encourages them to notice their reading habits and share what they enjoy most about books and stories.

Regular reflection helps children recognise what they enjoy most about reading and when they feel most focused. Over time, doodling can become part of their reading habit, showing that reading is about fun, imagination, and curiosity.

Teachers and parents can display the doodles on a classroom or home reading wall to celebrate each child’s unique reading journey. Seeing everyone’s work together builds a sense of shared excitement around reading.

Get started

Begin by talking about when and where pupils most enjoy reading. Ask them to think about what makes reading relaxing or exciting.
Then invite them to:

  • Use a blank sheet, notebook, or the printable My Reading Doodles sheet below
  • Doodle while reading or after finishing a book
  • Include colours, notes, or small details that show their reading mood

Share and celebrate

Encourage pupils to share their doodles with a partner, small group, or the whole class. Talk together about how everyone’s reading experiences are different and personal.
