The Pia’s Pet Club: Iguana Escape activity pack supports the 2026 World Book Day £1/€1.50 book and helps children explore the story through play, discussion and creative activities. With book chat questions, games and hands-on ideas, the pack encourages teamwork, imagination and a love of pets.
Why it works
The activities introduce the story in a playful, accessible way and help children connect with the characters. Short discussion prompts encourage children to share their experiences of pets and caring for animals. In addition, games and role-play activities support listening, cooperation and confidence. As a result, adults can support reading for pleasure while building social and communication skills.
How to use it
Use the pack before reading to spark curiosity, or after reading to explore ideas further. For example, adults can:
- try the Join Pia’s Pet Club game to encourage movement and imaginative play
- use the book chat questions to discuss responsibility, teamwork and caring for animals
- role-play the story using toys or drawings to explore problem-solving
All activities work with or without the book. They suit classroom sessions, family time at home, and library or community groups
