Build lasting reading routines with this simple, fun activity sheet.
Use it at home or in the classroom to make reading part of every day and support children to enjoy books in their own way.
How it works
Set up to three reading goals for the week. These could be anything from reading for ten minutes before bed, listening to an audiobook on the way to school, or reading aloud with a friend.
Tick each day when the goal is met and see how the week adds up. It’s an easy way to notice patterns and celebrate small successes.
Make it fun
Keep the tracker interesting by mixing up how and where you read. Try a graphic novel in a cosy corner, a poem outdoors, or a recipe book in the kitchen.
Encourage children to personalise their tracker with drawings or stickers. The aim is to show that all kinds of reading count – fiction, non-fiction, print, or audio.
Tips for adults
Use the tracker as part of daily routines or reading time in school. Talk about the goals children are setting and what helps them stick to them.
Celebrate progress at the end of the week with a short reflection or by sharing favourite reads. This helps children recognise that reading regularly can feel rewarding and relaxing.
