World Book Day and National Year of Reading community hubs

Thanks to the National Year of Reading World Book Day is excited to offer schools in the UK the opportunity to be distribution hubs for the £1 books this year.

For 4 weeks across World Book Day, we’d ask that your school becomes a pop-up bookshop, offering your pupils, as well as members of the local community, the chance to chance to exchange a £1/€1.50 World Book Day token for their choice of one of our World Book Day £1 books.

A colorful book display set up at an event promoting literacy, featuring two individuals in reflective vests selecting books. Nearby, a sign highlights the impact of reading on lives, surrounded by blue and yellow balloons. The atmosphere is engaging and focused on fostering a love for books.

Each participating school will receive:

  • At least 25 of each of the 12 books in the collection this year (or more if you are a larger school or part of a cluster)
  • A supportive toolkit and webinar to help you make the most of the opportunity by engaging with your local community.

You will need to:

  • Attend the webinar on 12 January at 4.30pm
  • Distribute the books between 13 February and 15 March 2026
  • Complete an evaluation to share with funding partners.

To ensure our support targets those who need it most, we’re looking to work in schools that:

  • Have an above average percentage of pupil premium pupils
  • Are located in areas of economic disadvantage
  • Have limited access to bookshops (are more than 2 miles/ 40min walk from a high street retailer stocking the £1 books, e.g. Waterstones, The Works or TJ Jones, previously WH Smith).

Please complete the form by Friday 12 December.

Allocations will be made and participating hubs will be informed in the first working week of January.
