The 2026 £1/€1.50 dressing-up ideas pack brings together simple, low-cost costume and prop activities for every book in this year’s World Book Day £1/€1.50 range. These fun, creative ideas help children celebrate the stories at home, in school, or in community settings. Ideas for every book include a no-printer option, so you can join in using materials you already have.

From masks and emblems to headbands and T-shirts, the activities support imaginative play and help spark curiosity before, during, and after reading.

Why it works

These dressing-up ideas encourage creativity, confidence, and connection with the books. They help children engage with characters, settings and themes through hands-on making and playful role play. The low-cost and no-printer approach makes the activities accessible for all children, whether at school, at home, or in a community group. Many activities also support discussion, teamwork, and storytelling.

What’s included

This single pack includes all the dressing-up resources for the full 2026 £1/€1.50 book range including Bunny vs Monkey: Total Chaos, Bear Rescue, Chaos at the Chocolate Factory, Unicorn Academy, Pia’s Pet Club: Iguana Escape and Unbelievable Football. Each resource includes clear instructions, creative prompts, and a no-printer alternative.

How to use it

Download the combined pack and choose one or more activities to enjoy together. You might:

  • use dressing-up ideas as part of World Book Day celebrations
  • add them to classroom book corners and story times
  • include them in library events or community workshops
  • use them at home to extend reading into play

The activities work with or without the books. Children can use their costumes while reading, acting out scenes, sharing favourite parts, or showing their designs in group activities.
