This downloadable activity pack accompanies the video story of Elmer.
The activities are designed for children in Early Years and Years 1 & 2 and support shared reading at home, in classrooms, or in nursery settings.
Elmer is a much-loved classic story written and illustrated by David McKee, published by Andersen Press. The story celebrates individuality, friendship and the joy of being yourself.
These activities encourage children to talk about the story, explore ideas together and respond creatively.
Why it works
The pack supports reading for fun and shared storytelling. The activities help children notice details in the illustrations and talk about what they see and think.
They also encourage creativity, imagination and playful exploration inspired by the story.
What’s included
The pack includes two simple activities inspired by Elmer. They are flexible and easy to use at home or in the classroom.
Children can watch the video story together, pause to talk about what is happening, and then try the activities.
Thank You for Making Me Smile postcard
Children create a postcard to thank someone who makes them smile, inspired by Elmer’s kindness and friendship.
Camouflage Challenge
Children use natural materials from a garden or park to hide a potato or other vegetable and see if family or friends can find it.
