The Funny FACTopia! activity pack supports the 2026 World Book Day £1/€1.50 book and invites children into a world of weird, surprising and hilarious facts. Through games, book chat and creative activities, the pack encourages curiosity, laughter and playful exploration of information.

Why it works

The activities build excitement before reading and help children engage with non-fiction in a fun, accessible way. Short prompts spark discussion and encourage children to share what they already know. In addition, games and creative tasks support critical thinking, listening skills and confidence. As a result, children can enjoy learning new facts while developing a love of reading for pleasure.

How to use it

Use the pack before reading to spark curiosity, or after reading to explore ideas further. For example, adults can:

  • try the Fact or not? game to build reasoning and discussion skills
  • use the book chat questions to explore humour, curiosity and how we learn new things
  • create a fact trail activity to help children make connections between ideas

All activities work with or without the book. They suit classroom sessions, family time at home, and library or community groups
