This downloadable activity pack accompanies the video story of Oh Dear!.

The activities are designed for children in Early Years and Years 1 and 2. They support shared reading at home, in classrooms or in nursery settings.

Oh Dear! is a lift-the-flap story by Rod Campbell, published by Macmillan Children’s Books.

These activities encourage children to explore, talk and respond through play.

Why it works

The pack supports reading for fun and shared storytelling. Children explore the story through drawing, tracing, counting and simple problem-solving.

The activities also help children connect the story to everyday experiences such as farms, animals, toys and breakfast routines.

What’s included

The pack includes five simple activities inspired by Oh Dear!. They are flexible and easy to use at home or in the classroom.

Children can watch the video story together, pause to talk about what is happening, and then try the activities.

Buster’s Maze
Children use their finger or a pencil to show Buster the way to the hen.

Egg Count
Children count the eggs in Buster’s basket, then draw some more.

Best Toy
Children draw a picture of their favourite toy, like Buster takes his teddy everywhere.

Whose House
Children draw lines to match the farm animals to their homes.

Spot the Differences
Children draw rings around the five differences between two farm pictures.
