The Rita agus an tEachtrán activity pack supports the 2026 World Book Day £1/€1.50 book and is the Irish-language version of this resource. It includes playful prompts and activities to help children explore the story, think about new experiences, and enjoy reading together. Through book chat, imaginative games, and creative play, the pack introduces themes of curiosity, friendship, language, and understanding others.
Why it works
The activities help children connect with Rita’s story in meaningful and accessible ways. Open questions encourage children to talk about feelings, learning new languages, and making friends. In addition, movement, role play, and imaginative play bring the idea of space travel and meeting aliens to life. As a result, children can build confidence, empathy, and enjoyment around reading for pleasure.
How to use it
Use the pack before reading to spark curiosity or after reading to deepen understanding. For example, adults can:
- use the book chat questions to talk about space, languages, and making friends
- try the Make an Alien Friend activity to encourage creativity and imaginative thinking
- play the space journey and packing activities to explore storytelling and role play
All activities work with or without the book. They suit classrooms, family reading time at home, and small group sessions in libraries or community settings.
