This downloadable activity pack accompanies the video story of Tales from Acorn Wood: Hide and Seek Pig.

The activities are designed for children in Early Years and Years 1 & 2 and support shared reading at home, in classrooms, or in nursery settings.

Hide and Seek Pig is part of the Tales from Acorn Wood series written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, published by Macmillan Children’s Books. The story follows Pig as she plays hide-and-seek with her friends.

These activities encourage children to talk about the story, play together and respond creatively.

Why it works

The pack supports reading for fun and shared storytelling. Children can explore the story through play, conversation and drawing.

The activities also help children notice details in the illustrations and connect the story to their own experiences.

What’s included

The pack includes two simple activities inspired by Hide and Seek Pig. They are flexible and easy to use at home or in the classroom.

Children can watch the video story together, pause to talk about what is happening, and then try the activities.

Play hide-and-seek
Children can play hide-and-seek with a favourite toy and family or friends. They can look for places where the toy is completely hidden or just peeking out. Younger children can play peekaboo with a toy instead.

Picnic drawing
Children draw themselves and their friends having a picnic together. They can decide what food they would bring and what they might do during their picnic.
