This downloadable activity pack accompanies the video story of Tales from Acorn Wood: Postman Bear.

The activities are designed for children in Early Years and Years 1 & 2 and support shared reading at home, in classrooms, or in nursery settings.

Postman Bear is a lift-the-flap story from the much-loved Tales from Acorn Wood series written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, published by Macmillan Children’s Books.

These activities encourage children to talk about the story, play imaginatively and respond creatively.

Why it works

The pack supports reading for fun and shared storytelling. Children can explore the story through drawing, imaginative play and simple writing activities.

The activities also help children connect the story to everyday experiences such as sending letters, celebrating birthdays and spending time with friends.

What’s included

The pack includes four simple activities inspired by Postman Bear. They are flexible and easy to use at home or in the classroom.

Children can watch the video story together, pause to talk about what is happening, and then try the activities.

Write a letter
Children write a letter to a friend or someone in their family, just like Bear delivers in the story.

Delivering a letter
Children take their letter to a postbox or deliver it to a friend or family member. On the way, they can look around and count five things they spot.

Having a party
Children set up a party for one of their toys. They can decide what games to play and what snacks to serve.

Bear’s birthday card
Children draw a birthday card for Bear to wish him a happy birthday.
