The Big Bang activity pack supports the 2026 World Book Day £1/€1.50 book and includes playful prompts and activities to help children explore the story, talk about feelings, and enjoy reading together. Through book chat, games and creative play, the pack introduces themes of friendship, bravery and communication.
Why it works
The activities help children connect with the story before and after reading. Simple questions encourage children to reflect on their own experiences, while movement games and art activities bring the stormy setting to life. As a result, children can build empathy, confidence and enjoyment around reading for pleasure.
How to use it
Use the pack as a shared activity before reading or as a follow-up once children know the story. For example, adults can:
- use the book chat questions to talk about storms, bravery and helping others
- play the Thunder and Lightning game to encourage listening and movement
- try the role-play and drawing activities to explore weather and emotions
All activities work with or without the book. They suit classrooms, family reading time at home, and small group sessions in libraries or community settings.
