Introducing the 2026 assembly

This downloadable PowerPoint supports a World Book Day 2026 school assembly for children aged 5–11. It introduces World Book Day, celebrates reading for fun, and links books to wellbeing through simple, child-friendly ideas. The assembly includes ready-to-use slides and a clear script to help you deliver a confident, engaging session.

The content supports the National Year of Reading and helps children see reading as something enjoyable, shared, and meaningful. It works well as a launch for World Book Day celebrations or as a standalone assembly at any point in the year.

How to use it

Download the assembly and adapt it to suit your school and pupils. You can deliver it to the whole school or tailor sections for different key stages. The slides include prompts for discussion and reflection, helping children think about the books they enjoy and how reading makes them feel.

In addition, the assembly links to World Book Day activities that can be explored in class afterwards. Teachers may choose to pause the presentation to invite children to share favourite stories or reading experiences.

What’s included

The PowerPoint includes structured slides, simple explanations, and a clear narrative that is easy to follow. It is designed for non-specialist delivery and works whether you are new to World Book Day or building on previous celebrations.

Teachers can also use ideas from the assembly as prompts for classroom activities during World Book Day week or later in the term.
