Little Red Riding Hood video story activity pack

A World Book Day poster featuring an illustration of an empty brown basket. There is a challenge: "What's in the basket?" encouraging readers to imagine and draw items to give to Grandma from the book cover shown in the corner.

This downloadable activity pack accompanies the video story of Little Red Riding Hood.

The activities are designed for children in Early Years and Years 1 and 2. They support shared reading at home, in classrooms or in nursery settings.

Little Red Riding Hood is a classic fairy tale retold in the Ladybird First Favourite Tales series, published by Ladybird Books.

These activities encourage children to explore, talk and respond through play.

Why it works

The pack supports reading for fun and shared storytelling. Children explore the story through drawing, role play and sequencing.

The activities also help children build confidence in retelling stories and understanding story structure.

What’s included

The pack includes four simple activities inspired by Little Red Riding Hood. They are flexible and easy to use at home or in the classroom.

Children can watch the video story together, pause to talk about what is happening, and then try the activities.

What’s in the Basket
Children draw the treat Little Red Riding Hood takes to her grandmother.

Act it Out
Children make simple puppets and act out the story or create their own version.

Story Sequencing
Children cut out cards and place them in the correct order to retell the story.

Spot the Difference
Children look closely and find five differences between two pictures.

Each activity includes optional ideas to extend learning and play.
