WORLD BOOK DAY® ANNOUNCES NEW TRUSTEES

New appointments boost industry expertise for the reading charity.

World Book Day has announced new additions to its Trustee Board, chaired by Emma Scott, as it continues to deliver its 2023-27 strategy to deliver greater reach and increased impact. The two new Trustee appointments from publishing and bookselling are:

  • Rebecca Sinclair – Chief Brand Officer at Penguin Random House
  • Nicole Vanderbilt – UK Managing Director for Bookshop.org, an online bookshop with a mission to support local, independent bookshops.

Emma Scott, Chair of World Book Day said: “We’re delighted to welcome Rebecca and Nicole to the World Book Day board. Their industry experience, and clear passion for World Book Day’s charitable purpose, will be hugely valuable as we develop and deliver our charity’s strategy. Rebecca and Nicole join a wide range of expertise on our Board, helping us to increase the positive impact of World Book Day”.

Rebecca Sinclair, Chief Brand Officer at Penguin Random House said: “I have long been an admirer of World Book Day in both a personal and professional capacity, and the work it does to promote the power of reading. We know that reading for pleasure is the single biggest determining factor in a child’s future success, yet we know from research that reading for pleasure is in decline.  That is worrying many levels but, most profoundly, because it means that children are missing out, not only on the joy of reading, but also the opportunities that it unlocks. Therefore, their mission is more urgent than ever, and I am excited to work with the team to help to drive that forward.”

Nicole Vanderbilt – UK Managing Director for Bookshop.org: “I’m thrilled to be joining World Book Day as a Trustee. Their work to increase children’s reading for pleasure is near and dear to my heart. It’s a privilege to work with fellow Trustees, and the incredible World Book Day team.”
