World Book Day changes lives through a love of books and shared reading. Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success – more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational background or their income. Almost 15% of children do not own their own book before they are gifted a £1 World Book Day book. (Source: OECD)
Authors and illustrators are a big part of what makes World Book Day special. Thanks to you, World Book Day can bring the transformative power of reading for pleasure to more children and young people.

World Book Day is made possible by working in collaboration with publishing houses who support our work as a charity. These publishers are then eligible to pitch content for World Book Day’s opportunities such as our Book Club, Share a Story Corner and £1 books.
