RAISING MONEY, RAISING READERS

In the UK, nearly 1,000,000 children don’t have a book of their own (National Literacy Trust). Having access to books and developing a love of reading for pleasure is vital for a child’s future. Our vision is to see more children, from all backgrounds, developing a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and benefitting from the improved life chances this brings them.

By making a donation or raising funds for World Book Day, you can help us change lives through a love of books and reading. The funds you raise help us to:

  • Give every child a book of their own
    A donation of £1/€1.50 helps us get book tokens and books to children across the UK and Ireland. For 1 in 5 children receiving free school meals the World Book Day £1/€1.50 book is the first they have had of their own. (2021 National Literacy Trust Annual Literacy Survey)
  • Encourage more children to read for pleasure
    By making books fun and accessible, we transform attitudes to reading encouraging more families, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to enjoy books together.
  • Reach children and families experiencing inequality to support life-changing reading
    Working with local communities, libraries and charity partners we deliver exciting activities to encourage reading and get books to the children and young people who need them most.

Corporate partnerships

A partnership with World Book Day will give your organisation the opportunity to encourage more children, from all backgrounds, to develop the life-long habit of reading for pleasure that will improve their life chances.

World Book Day will help you to celebrate the importance of reading together, to fundraise creatively and to engage in inspiring volunteering opportunities. Your support will help World Book Day to support and encourage today’s children to be a generation of readers, and to offer every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own.

All Dressed Up for World Book Day: 100,000 free costumes to give away!

We’ve teamed up with Rubies and Parentkind to give more children the opportunity of dressing up for World Book Day, to find the fun in reading. Rubies are donating 100,000 costumes to schools with over 25% free school meal provision.

PTAs are encouraged to donate £1 a costume to the charity World Book Day, to support them to get more children involved in the fun of reading.

World Book Day is offering PTAs the opportunity to use its annual event to fundraise for books and other reading resources – to support children’s reading enjoyment all year round.

Let’s get All Dressed Up to give more children the benefits of reading for fun

There is an optional donation to World Book Day to support us to get more children involved in the fun of reading.
