Dressing up is a popular way to encourage children (particularly reluctant readers) to engage with reading. It can help children, to swap reading recommendations, and is a good way to celebrate what children are reading at home. It can help create fun and excitement around reading. But there are lots of ways to have fun on World Book Day that don't include costumes but create the same effect.
If you or your child's school is choosing to dress up, the most important thing is that it reflects your child's choice of reading.
