It’s vital that World Book Day encourages even more children to be readers. That’s why World Book Day aims to be an ally to all children, making sure that all can see themselves represented in what we do, and make a deep connection with what they read.
World Book Day works with publishers to present a diverse selection of £1/€1.50 books and other book content that appeals to the widest possible audience.
World Book Day’s commitment to diversity and inclusion is at the heart of our mission to encourage more children to read for pleasure.
All the World Book Day £1/€1.50 books are available in braille, large print, and audio with help from RNIB, Guide Dogs, Calibre Audio and Vision Ireland.

We aim to support readers with dyslexic by asking publishers to ensure the books are printed on off-white paper with a high opacity to ensure all our books are accessible to all.
If you’d like to know more click here to read CLPE’s Reflecting Realities Research and here is our Selection Guidance to find out how we choose the £1/€1.50 books.
RNIB, the Royal National Institute of Blind People, is the UK’s leading sight loss charity. We offer practical and emotional support to blind and partially sighted people, their families and carers. We raise awareness of the experiences of blind and partially sighted people and campaign for change to make our society more accessible for all. We want to change our world so there are no barriers to people with sight loss.
Guide Dogs doesn’t just provide guide dog partnerships. We have a whole range of services, information and advice that can support people with sight loss, at whatever age or stage of their condition, and whatever they want to achieve.
Our CustomEyes Books service ensures that children with a vision impairment and/or dyslexia can know the joy of reading a real book, just like their friends and classmates. All our large print books are custom-made, with font size, spacing, colour and more all tailored to the needs of individual children. And thanks to a generous Guide Dogs subsidy, all are available at the recommended retail price, regardless of format.
Calibre Audio provides a free audiobook lending service for young people under the age of 18 who struggle to read a printed book. This includes those with a visual impairment, those who struggle to comprehend a line of text as a result of conditions such as dyslexia, autism or ADHD, and those who are physically unable to hold a printed book. Through its audiobook collection, Calibre supports young people to improve their literacy levels as well as their wellbeing and life outcomes.
Vision Ireland, which is the new name for NCBI, is the national sight loss organisation, working for people with sight loss.
They provide practical and emotional support, rehabilitation services, and other training designed to help people with sight loss live independently and confidently.
